Transportation Equity Programs

Creating Equity in Transportation for Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs

Imagine a three-hour walk and bus ride to work, then making that trip five times a week. For neighbors without personal transportation, this is a daily reality.

Our PikeRide for All programs ease this burden by reducing transportation costs, freeing up precious funds for essentials, and saving people time. Whether spreading the word about our programs to your community or donating to the cause, your support isn’t just about giving a ride - it’s about changing lives and offering a pathway to independence.

Our transportation equity programs are designed to empower community members by providing affordable and reliable transportation options for those who need it most. We do this through our WeRide and PikeRide+ programs:

WeRide provides a $20 annual PikeRide ebike share membership to neighbors facing financial hardship.

PikeRide+

How Do These Programs Work?

Once qualified participants have applied, they are matched with the transportation program that best meets their needs. Both programs are designed to remove transportation barriers by providing affordable access to ebikes. We carefully maintain and expand our ebike fleet to keep costs low and reliability high, making sure participants have dependable transportation.

By breaking down barriers to essential services, employment, education, and social opportunities, these programs make a direct, positive impact on the lives of individuals and the community as a whole. With support from donors like you, we’re helping to build a more inclusive and connected city, where everyone has the opportunity to move freely and thrive.

What is Transportation Equity?

The U.S. Department of Transportation defines transportation equity as seeking “fairness in mobility and accessibility to meet the needs of all community members. A central goal of transportation is to facilitate social and economic opportunities by providing equitable levels of access to affordable and reliable transportation options based on the needs of the populations being served, particularly populations that are traditionally underserved.”

“Transportation cost burden falls the hardest on lowest income families; lower income households spent 30% of their after-tax income on transportation in 2022.” The household cost of transportation: Is it affordable?, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (2024).

Transportation shouldn’t be a luxury. When members of our community have affordable transportation and fair access to jobs, healthcare, and essential resources, it creates a ripple effect and everyone benefits. Individuals are empowered to pursue opportunities, families can support each other more easily, and our local economy grows stronger. By ensuring equitable access to transportation, we build a more connected, resilient community where everyone has the chance to thrive.
